Editorial Standards & Corrections Policy
Last updated: August 2026
This page is the source of truth for how Garden and Home Reviews decides what to recommend and how we keep that guidance accurate. Our goal is simple: help you choose home and garden products with honest, independent, reader-first research you can trust.
How we rank products
We rank by aggregating and weighing evidence, not by opinion or payment. We do not buy, test, install or physically handle the products we cover, and we never claim to. Instead, we synthesize the evidence that already exists, in this order of priority:
- Real owner reviews and star ratings at volume — what large numbers of verified buyers actually report after living with a product.
- Recurring owner-reported failure modes — the specific problems that show up again and again across those reviews, which often matter more than the average score.
- Published manufacturer specifications — verifiable details such as materials, dimensions, capacity, power and warranty terms.
- Independent expert consensus — where credible, disclosed third-party expertise agrees or disagrees.
We weight recent reviews above launch-window ones, because early reviews can miss durability issues, quality-control drift or design changes that only surface after months of use. A product’s standing can rise or fall as the evidence changes. For a fuller explanation of the method, see How We Rank.
Editorial independence
Our rankings are not for sale. Specifically:
- No pay-for-placement. A brand cannot buy a spot, a higher position or a better verdict.
- No free-product-for-review deals. We don’t accept free or discounted products in exchange for coverage.
- Commission never changes the order. We are an Amazon Associate and earn a commission when you buy through our links, at no extra cost to you. That commission has no influence on which products we recommend or how we rank them. We’d earn the same whether a product finishes first or last.
- No sponsored content. We don’t publish paid placements or advertorials dressed up as editorial.

What we don’t do
We want to be completely clear: we do not run a lab and we do not conduct first-hand testing. We do not measure, benchmark or stress-test products ourselves, and we will never describe our research as hands-on testing. Our value is in rigorously gathering, cross-checking and interpreting the real-world evidence so you don’t have to.
Keeping content fresh
- Every page carries a visible last-updated date so you know how current it is.
- We revisit guidance when a product is revised, reformulated, replaced or discontinued, or when the weight of owner reviews shifts.
- When a recommendation changes, we update the page openly rather than quietly editing it, so the change is transparent.
- Prices, star ratings and availability are snapshots. They change constantly on Amazon, and the figure you see at checkout is always the one that counts.
How we use AI and automation
Our process is research-assisted but human-reviewed. We use software and automation to help gather and organize large volumes of reviews, ratings and specifications. A human editor reviews the findings, applies the source hierarchy above, and is responsible for every published recommendation. We don’t pretend to be a large newsroom — we’re a focused editorial operation that combines efficient research tooling with human judgment and accountability.
