The two brands land in the same bands, so this is not a budget-versus-premium comparison. Entry sits around $180 to $250 for the basic Roomba and $300 to $400 for the roborock Q5 Max+. The middle is $400 to $550, where the Roomba j7 and roborock Q8 Max+ meet head-on. The top is $600 to $800 for the Roomba j9+ and the roborock Q Revo.

What you get for the same money differs sharply. At $400 to $550, iRobot spends the budget on object recognition and gives you no dock and no mopping; roborock spends it on LiDAR, a self-empty dock and a mop pad. At the $600 to $800 mark, roborock adds spinning mops that wash and dry themselves while iRobot adds a bin that empties itself. Which is the better use of the money depends entirely on whether your floors are hard or soft.

Running costs are where robots surprise people. Both brands need filters two or three times a year, side brushes about as often, and a main brush roughly annually.
