Every fertilizer label carries three numbers — the NPK ratio — showing the percentage by weight of nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) and potassium (K). Each does a specific job in a tomato plant:

- Feeding without watering. Concentrated fertilizer on dry roots burns them. Water before and after every feed.
