Judge the white on your wall, not on a screen. Whites are separated by tiny amounts of tint that no photograph survives. Paint a two-foot square on the actual wall, or paint a poster board and move it around the room, and look at it in morning light, afternoon light and lamplight. A white that looks perfect at noon can turn grey at 5pm.

Match the white to the light. South-facing rooms get warm, strong light all day and can carry a cool, bright white beautifully. North-facing rooms get cool, weak, indirect light and will make that same white look grey and institutional — those rooms want a white with some warmth in it. East and west rooms swing through the day, so pick the time you actually use the room and choose for that.
